This village was once inhabited all year round. We can find on many farms stone lintels, testimonies of the presence of "Kegnes and Frahans" (masons and stonemasons).
Its chapel (1684) is dedicated to Saint François de Sales.
Difficulty: fairly easy
Start: Place du Gros Tilleul in Samoëns
From the Place du Gros Tilleul (planted in 1438) pass between the church and the Town Hall, turn right behind the Ecuries du Chateau, then left. Continue along the path that once led to the Tornalta Castle (destroyed by the Valaisans in 1476, the ruins can still be seen at the top of the Jaÿsinia Botanical Garden) which runs along the outer wall of the Botanical Garden, then passes in front of the imposing Simon farm. (direction Chantemerle).
After crossing the road, take the magnificent shaded path, bordered by dry stone walls, which leads, passing above the hamlet of La Grangiat, to the village of Combes. (On leaving the village notice the oratory erected in 1754).
Continue along the wide stony path which is the old access road to Chantemerle.
Cross the village and follow the direction of La Rosière.
A path, then a narrow road lead to the hamlet of Chosalets. Shortly before it, turn right in the direction of “Samoëns via the Forêt des Suets” and follow the path which rises through the meadows.
At the edge of the forest, take a skidding path to the right which climbs up to the ruins of a chalet.
The path descends fairly quickly to the village of Chantemerle and crosses a path at a place called "La pierre du dînna" (in other words the stone of dinner). Follow this path to the left which runs through the very beautiful and game-rich forest of the Suets.
The path enters a reforestation area and offers splendid views of the Vallon plain, the Pointe de Sales and the Mont Blanc range. He will take you back to the hamlet of La Grangiat.
At the Croix des Pleignes, you can return to Samoëns via Levy (straight ahead) or else by the path taken on the outward journey (oblique to the left).

This is a typical family walk, along the banks of the River Giffre between Samoëns and Morillon in a wide forest road
The Samoëns leisure centre is organised around two lakes linked by a small waterfall. The tour of these lakes is in itself a short but very pleasant walk, with the Haut Giffre mountains in the background and more particularly the Criou.
The route to the Lac Bleu de Morillon takes the wooden bridge, located near the refreshment bar, between the two lakes. Shortly after the bridge turn right, then left, to enter a mixed forest: spruce and beech.
A wide path leads you to the R'Biolle footbridge which, with a single span of 17 metres, spans the Giffre.
At the end of the footbridge the path turns right and takes you through the woods of L'Etelley and then along the Giffre to the Lac Bleu de Morillon.
In July and August, the beach of the lake welcomes bathers (supervised swimming) and pleasant lawns invite you to relax.
Allow 1 1/2 hours for the return walk.
Flat ground.
Type of terrain: wide forest track.
Recommendation: no dogs allowed in the leisure complexes in Samoëns and Morillon.
Departure from the Lac aux Dames in Samoëns.
Difficulties: none

This aerial route is a wonderful viewpoint over the Chablais, Haut Giffre and Mont Blanc massifs. The Joux Plane lake is an artificial lake used to water the herds of the mountain pasture and to regulate the course of the Valentine torrent.
Difficulty: easy
Start: Joux Plane lake (located at the top of the Joux Plane pass)
Map reference: Vallée du Haut Giffre topo-guide
From the Joux Plane lake, take the path on the right which leads to the real Joux Plane pass located between the Tête de Vuargne* on the left (which we will climb) and the pointe d'Angolon on the right. From the pass, a path quickly rises up the grassy slope by a few tight switchbacks to reach a rocky projection.
The path skirts around it on the left, crosses the slopes overlooking the lake and then rises in a valley before reaching the ridge.
The path continues, without further difficulty, opening up a splendid view of the Mt Blanc range on the left and the Chablais mountains on the right.
A few hundred metres further on, the Ranfolly chairlift station appears (Les Gets ski area). In front of the station, an orientation table will allow you to put a name on the summits that surround you.
Continuing along the ridge, the path descends quietly to the Col road. Once you have reached the road, turn left to reach the lake.

Although located in the heart of the ski lifts, this short walk from the Samoëns 1600 resort is very pleasant. In July and August the area is covered with blueberries.
Duration: 1h15
Difference in height: 174 meters
Difficulty: very easy
Departure: car park of Samoëns 1600 (which can be reached from Samoëns by following the direction Samoëns 1600)
Carto reference: topo-guide Vallée du Haut Giffre
At the end of the car park, take the wide path which, turning to the left, passes under the Chariande chairlifts and takes you peacefully, through blueberry and rhododendron trees, to the Gouilles Rouges lake.
This artificial lake used to supply the resort with drinking water. It now serves as a water reserve for the artificial snowmaking of the slopes.
From the lake, follow the path on the left which, in a few metres, takes you to a small promontory with a view of the cirque of Vaconnant.
In winter, this cirque is the scene of numerous avalanches which take the corridors in front of you.
The left-most corridor, from the ridge to the Pointe de Trapechet, is called the "couloir des morts" (corridor of the dead). The evocation of this name gives you a chill and reminds you that in winter caution is required.
