Nestled beneath the imposing rocky barrier of the Grenier de Communes, the Praz de Commune are steeped in history and tradition. This adventure begins in the hamlet of Passy, which can be reached from the village of Salvagny.
From the top of the old ski lift, follow the carriage road that leads directly to the Mouillettes mountain pastures. Then you'll reach the Commune mountain pastures, and finally the final destination: Les Praz de Commune. For the more courageous, above Les Praz de Commune, a steep path leads to the Croix de La Frête, a formidable lookout point overlooking the Fer-à-Cheval cirque.
Be warned: parking space is limited in the hamlet of Passy.
From Passy hamlet, follow the wide track that goes past a few chalets and leads to the top of the Vagnys chairlift. Just beyond the chairlift, go left towards Commune. The path follows the edge of the woods and goes past the Verduize and Mouillettes chalets, before reaching the Commune mountain pasture. The view of the surrounding mountains is beautiful. Cross the pasture to reach Les Praz de Commune and its small gathering of chalets.
