13th Botanical Days: Marie Louise COGNACQ-JAY, a life at the top

This year, the Maison de la Jaÿsinia is hosting an exhibition on the life and work of Marie-Louise Cognacq-Jaÿ (1838-1925), founder of the Alpine botanical garden of Samoëns. A strong personality with innovative social visions.

Marie-Louise Cognacq-Jaÿ (1838-1825), emblematic figure of Samoëns if there is one!
In the land of the Seven Mountains, his name is on everyone's lips. There is plenty: she was a dazzling personality of Parisian commerce and founded the Alpine Botanical Garden of Samoëns, an establishment to the glory of the living to support the native land.
The Botanical Days had to pay tribute to this child of the country. Throughout the summer of 2021, the Maison du Parc will host an exhibition on the life and work of Marie-Louise.
Michel Gaudin, author of La Samaritaine des Cognacq-Jaÿ, a specialist on the subject, collaborated for this exhibition with Alain Lachaud, author of books on life in the past in Haut-Giffre.
The opportunity for a refreshing trip to say the least in the life and work of the foundress of La Samaritaine: the great hours, little-known personality traits, a visionary character and a work that continues to grow almost a century after her. … All illustrated with numerous unpublished documents.
