The Grand Massif is ideal walking country. There are footpaths along the banks of the Giffre, half-day walks and opportunities to meet local people and find out about their lifestyle and traditions. You can also go on a nature ramble to see the flora and fauna or learn about the traditional use of plants (edible plants and minor first aid) etc.
The Syndicat de la Vallée du Haut Giffre (Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt Fer à Cheval, Verchaix) has published a walkers' guide through Editions "Edisud" containing a large number of walks of which twenty or more are suitable for all ages. They vary in time from one hour to three and a half hours (Walks 1 to 19). The guide is an invitation to see our most cherished and most beautiful places - our nature environment and our living and historic heritage. It's designed for your pleasure -and for the pleasure of future generations. Available in Samoëns' shops: 14 €.
The Syndicat Intercommunal d'Etude et d'Aménagement du Grand Massif (SIEAGM - Samoëns, Morillon, Sixt Fer à Cheval, Arâches, Magland and Passy) also publishes a map of walking trails available from shops in Samoëns: 7.50 €
